The presentation of the project “The youth is reading” designed for the booklovers by Azercell Telecom LLC took place on May 12 at Starbucks coffee shop in Ganjlik Mall. 11 young individuals were publicly announced as the selected readers for the Project. Nigar Shikhlinskaya, Corporate Communications Manager at Azercell Telecom LLC, spoke about the objective of the project and expectations: “The number of people addicted to reading books is decreasing steadily. New technologies, modern devices, especially Internet are entering and taking roots in our lives so fast that no time is left for old good habits. Therefore, in order to extend the life of books we should get them adapted to modern life. The project is aimed to extend online reading, add new shades to reading skills and culture and promote young Azerbaijani writers. In addition, city residents and guests will get a chance to meet both famous and young writers at their leisure time. to the days of leisure reading, and well-known, but also will have an opportunity to meet young writers. We express our gratitude to Starbucks Azerbaijan for supporting us with venue in this project.
Ilgar Fahmi, secretary of Azerbaijan Writers' Union, shared his positive thoughts about the project, noting the value of books and the importance of reading.
It should be noted that the best public readers were selected among the youth through a competition. Young individuals aged 18-29 with distinguished public speaking and reading skills submitted a resume, photo and a voice sample to Azercell. The best readers were selected to read to an audience in the frame of “The youth is reading” project.
The project will feature special “reading days” and will. During the days of public reading, which will be organized once a week in Starbuck coffee shop in Ganclik Mall shopping centre of Baku, the young readers will read the books for the audience of booklovers via online library.
